Pastor Biography
Reverend Maverick Davis serves as pastor of In the Upper Room Ministries (ITURM) in Lansing, Illinois, where he was installed as senior pastor on August 9, 2025. Known for compassionate outreach, he ministers to the homeless, returning citizens, recovering individuals, at-risk youth, and families in crisis, affirming that “hell has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.”
Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Tollie F. Davis, Sr., and Bernice (Rooks) Davis, he is the seventh of thirteen children and was spiritually nurtured under the late Bishop Jesse White. His preparation includes service in the United States Army (honorably discharged in 1990), technical certifications in electronics and telecommunications, and a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Chicago Baptist Institute (2010).
Acknowledging his call to preach in 2000, he was licensed in 2001 and ordained in 2004. His ministry work has included prison chaplaincy, youth and restorative initiatives, nonprofit leadership, and service as Director of Prison Ministry at Upper Room prior to his pastoral appointment.
He is the proud father of three—Maverick II, Austyn, and Dylan—and a devoted grandfather of seven who lovingly call him “Papa.”
